Bill
Bressington, the founder of Midel and the driving force behind
S.U. in Australia, became involved in S.U. fuel systems during
his apprenticeship from 1945 to 1950 at the then S.U.
distributors, York Motors. An affinity with this unique
carburettor saw him follow the distributorship, first to
Automotive Carburettors until 1960 and then to Lancaster Motors. In
1970, Bill set up Partco Trading which evolved into Midel Pty.
Ltd., whose Illawarra Rd.premises became a magnet to
British-vehicle owners and S.U. enthusiasts.
The
company expanded and moved to their present modern warehouse
facility in 1984, still concentrating on importing and
distributing S.U. carburettors and fuel system products. Of
late, the purchase of superseded factory stocks and the
reconditioning of out of production units for early vehicles,
has become a Midel specialty.
Over the
years, Bill has worked closely with top drivers and engine
builders such as the late Peter Manton, in the development of
twin S.U. manifolds and conversion parts. His yearly visits to
S.U. England since 1960, and the collating of S.U. factory
specification and tuning data, has put Midel at the forefront
on product range and knowledge amongst S.U. distributors
worldwide.
For the
last 7 years Bill has taken Midel abroad to England to display
his stock of S.U. Carbs and parts at the annual Beaulieu
Autojumble. As you could imagine, Midel isn't a one man
company, so in carrying on the family business, Bill and his
two sons Adam and Grant and family friend David are all hard
at work to keep the classic car industry alive.
